Summary of The Day: There are no scheduled activities on the first day of the tour. On arrival please ask reception when the pre-departure meeting will be held.
Havana is a city lost in time. In every corner you will find traces of historical influences that have added to the complex and full-bodied flavors of Cuban culture, from the Spanish conquest and African slave trade, to a lavish vacation paradise for wealthy North Americans in the 1950's.
Take a lazy stroll along the Malecon, get lost in the time warp of Old Havana's colonial cobblestone streets, take a ride in a 1940 Dodge taxi through crumbling central Havana, witness Afro-Cuban religious rituals on the street, and dance salsa until dawn.
Summary of The Day: Leaving the bustle of Havana, we'll pass through the scenic countryside en route to Vinales. This delightful town is close to the striking Sierra de los Organos Mountains. On arrival, we'll check into our home-stays and meet our friendly host families. Take some time to get to know the culture first-hand with your host family and enjoy some wholesome home-cooked Cuban food.
On the included tour of the surrounding countryside, we'll walk through tobacco fields where the finest tobacco in the world is grown, and learn about the local produce grown in the surrounding farmlands. Your local guide will explain the agriculture, geology, flora and fauna of the area. There's also a chance to visit a local farmer and see how they roll a true campesino cigar. Upon reconvening after free time in the afternoon, we'll dine at the homestay with the option of listening to some live local Cuban music and trying out some salsa steps.
Summary of The Day: Our exploration of Vinales continues.
Summary of The Day: We'll leave the charms of Vinales and travel to Soroa, stopping at Las Terrazas, Cuba's first sustainable rural community and biosphere reserve. Here we'll take a guided tour of an antique 19th-century French coffee plantation and learn about the old coffee trade in Cuba and the slaves' role in production. You may opt to take a short hike to nearby waterfalls, look-out points and an orchid garden. Or just kick back and relax.
Summary of The Day: Today we'll journey onwards to Jibacoa, where you'll have two free days to bask in the sun and engage in some serious R&R. If that's not enough, why not have a soothing massage right on the beach? You'll also have the option to visit an orchid garden en route to Jibacoa.
Summary of The Day: Our exploration of Jibacoa continues.
Summary of The Day: After a generous helping of sun and surf we'll head back to Havana, where you will have another chance to explore the city.
Summary of The Day: Your adventure of a lifetime comes to an end today. If you have a late flight or have lengthened your stay by adding post tour accommodation you will have more time to explore the sights.
