Prepare for the adventure of the lifetime! Today, you'll arrive in San Jose and self-transfer to our hotel.

Make sure to look for a note or bulletin board in the reception for a message from your Certified Experience Operator (CEO). This note will give the details of your Welcome Meeting on day 1 (usually between 5:00pm and 7:00pm), where you will get a chance to meet your CEO and other travelers, as well as learn more about how the tour will run. If you don’t see a note, please ask reception for details!

You'll be free to relax or explore the city today,. but make sure to return for your Welcome Meeting.

If you are arriving later and will miss the Welcome Meeting, your CEO will leave a note at reception for you with any information you may need, and with morning instructions for the next day.

San Jose - Monteverde

Today we'll travel to the world famous Monteverde Cloud Forest. Today's ride can be a bumpy ride on some unpaved roads, but the views along the way are spectacular. Upon arrival, join us for a walk through these cloud enveloped trees to discover the unique wildlife and fauna that thrive here.

You also have the option of joining a tour to a coffee plantation to learn how this amazing beverage is farmed and brewed by expert coffee brewers.

We'll end the day at our hotel in the Monteverde village.

Today you'll be free to explore the forest on your own or join one of many optional activities throughout the region.

Arenal Volcano National Park

Monteverde - La Fortuna

Saying farewell to Monteverde we'll travel through rolling hills, across a lake, and up and down a final hill or two from Monteverde to La Fortuna, where there is free time to explore.

The town of La Fortuna lies near the base of the Arenal Volcano, with Costa Rica's largest lake, Arenal, located on the opposite side. La Fortuna is a perfect launch pad to go wild, and let the adrenaline flow, with a range of adventure sports.

Today you'll be free to experience the range of adventures that are hidden throughout the Arenal National Park.

Get your adrenaline pumping, discover the local wildlife, marvel at the Arenal Volcano and getting to know more about La Fortuna's Costa Rica.

We'll begin today with a half-day bike ride around La Fortuna on a guided tour of the area.

In the evening, you can choose to relax in a local hot spring just at the base of Arenal Volcano.

Please note it will be necessary to repack your bags according to the rafting packing list provided for the Pacuare River trip as it is an early departure tomorrow.

Day 07

La Fortuna - Pacuare

Hotel: Rios Tropicales Lodge or similar

Departing La Fortuna, we'll begin our two day rafting trip on Pacuare River. We'll suit up and climb into our rafts, traveling down river through this amazing region. Along the way, we'll stop for a short hike to explore the nearby waterfalls and enchanting canyons.

We'll spend the night at a jungle lodge on the banks of the Pacuare River.

Our accommodation is in a rustic lodge which has multi-share dormitory-style rooms, with shared bathroom facilities.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.
Day 08


Hotel: Rios Tropicales Lodge or similar

We'll have another day near the river to explore the surrounding rainforest. WE'll hike with a local guide to see waterfalls, swim in streams, and learn about the natural environment that is home to the Cabecar indigenous peoples.

Spend the rest of the day relaxing in a hammock and enjoy the sounds of tropical birds calling above the roar of the rushing river.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.
Day 09
Puerto Viejo de Talamanca

Pacuare - Puerto Viejo de Talamanca

In the morning we'll embark on the final leg of our journey as we continue down river. Once we reach our pick-up point, we'll transfer to the Caribbean coastal town of Puerto Viejo.

Costa Rica is famous for its sun, sand and surf - and today you get to experience it all! Pull on a rash guard, grab a big board and get ready to hang ten like a local with an included surf lesson.

The picturesque village of Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is known for its incomparable white- and black-sand beaches surrounded by exotic tropical vegetation. Rent a bike or hire a boat to Manzanillo, hike to Monkey Point through the Gandoca-Manzanillo National Wildlife Refuge. Try snorkeling or take it easy and and explore La Isla Botanical Gardens. The day is yours to enjoy this amazing coastline.

Enjoy free time in Puerto Viejo and soak up the sun on the Caribbean. The warm turquoise water is ideal for swimming, fishing, kayaking, boogie boarding, and surfing. Opt to take a boat trip, snorkel the nearby reefs, or cycle down the coast.

Special Notes
  • While it is our intention to adhere to the route described, there is a certain amount of flexibility built into the itinerary and on occasion it may be necessary, or desirable to make alterations.
  • Costa Rica will not be allowing anyone to enter the country without proof of a departure ticket (bus, airplane, boat, etc.). If you are travelling through a few countries in Central America, you will need to show proof of your itinerary and a departure ticket from your last destination. Please print the itinerary and voucher and bring it with you.
  • You should not participate in rafting if you fall into any of the following categories - pregnant, have had major surgery in the last 6 months or major injury e.g. spine or neck problems.
  • Our accommodation for the Pacuare Rafting Expedition is in a rustic lodge which has multi-share dormitory-style rooms, with shared bathroom facilities.
  • We recommend the use of a duffel bag or backpack (whichever you find easiest to carry). You must be able to carry your luggage to our accommodations and should be prepared to load it on and off of transportation, as porters are usually not on hand. A good size daypack is also essential. This should be medium size, comfortable shoulder strap variety.
  • This tour/activity is overseen by a select local operator in the region. Upon booking your tour or activity and after receiving confirmation, you will be issued an e-ticket detailing the local operator's name and contact information. If you require assistance finding a specific tour, please contact us for more information.

Your reservation is always subject to confirmation by email, normally within one to two business days.

* Child: 12-17 years of age
* Children younger than 12 are not permitted on this tour.
* Prices for Single Occupancy apply when one person stays in one standard hotel room.
* Prices for Double Occupancy apply when two people stay in one standard hotel room.

Reservation Info

    1.Immediately after submitting your reservation you will receive a Receipt of Reservation via email.
    2. Within one to two business days of submitting your reservation you will receive a confirmation email from us. If you need to book an airline ticket, we recommend that you do so after you receive a confirmation of your tour reservation from us.
    3. An E-Ticket will be sent to you via email as soon as details of your reservation are confirmed or your supporting information is received by us. We will provide you with all detailed information about your tour on the E-Ticket. Contact information for local tour provider will be included on E-Ticket for your convenience or re-confirmation purpose if re-confirmation is required.
    4. Simply print your E-Ticket and present it with your valid photo ID on the day of your activity to your tour guide. Please remember E-Ticket is your proof of purchase.
