Today you'll arrive in Guatemala and self-transfer to our first night's hotel in Antigua.

Tonight it's time to meet your group leader and check out the colonial cobbled streets of Antigua where you can soak up the Spanish architecture, explore vibrant markets and heritage museums and make sure to try tasty local treats like Tamales and Pepian. Arrive early and make the most of hiring a bike and exploring the lush mountain slopes that form a permanent backdrop to this awesome city.

Antigua is an intriguing place on so many different levels and having the chance to learn and discover through first hand experiences is a pretty unique and unforgettable prospect. If you have the chance to try some of the optional activities then you'll really be able to get further under the skin of Central America with tours of nut plantations and chocolate museums always proving really popular.

Travel through the wild, dry country of eastern Guatemala as you head to Copan in Honduras. Discover more about the mysterious Mayans with the chance to explore the ancient temples, pyramids and statues of Copan that are famed throughout the land. After a day of travelling there's no better way to relax and feel refreshed than a dip in the Copan natural springs.

Tips:
For 2017 departures, we will no longer visit Copan and will have an extra day in Nicaragua instead.

Suchitoto

This morning you may like to pay an optional visit to the Mayan ruins of Copan.

Then you'll cross the border into El Salvador heading south to Suchitoto, a reminder of El Salvador's historical past. A beautiful town with painted houses and cobbled streets, it's a world away from the modern country which El Salvador is today. The town overlooks the Embalse Cerron Grande, also known as Lago Suchitlan, which is a haven for migrating birds, particularly falcons and hawks.

San Salvador

Heading south today, you pass through the nation's capital San Salvador, and head for the beautiful laid-back beaches of El Tunco.

Here you'll find a rare side to El Salvador, a place so laid-back and relaxed you'll never want to leave. Go for a surfing lesson, grab a fresh fruit smoothie, try street food (especially a pupusa) but make sure you head to Monkey La La for sunset and a drink, for the perfect end to this awesome day adventure.

El Cuco

El Cuco is a beach town with dark sand, lined with vendor huts, delicious seafood restaurants and surrounding palms. Take time to enjoy the beach away from the crowds and see a different side to El Salvador. Kayak among the mangroves, give surfing a go or just relax in a hammock, this is beach life at its best!

Granada, Nicaragua

Today is a full day of travel through Gulf of Fonseca (approx. 14 hrs). A good book, music, snacks and bottled water are a must to have for today's long journey. You'll take a short transfer to La Union where you'll take a boat through the Gulf of Fonseca stopping at one of the islands where you can have lunch and relax before continuing to the Nicaraguan side at Potosi. Once you've had your passports checked you take a minivan to Granada.

Nicaragua is a beautiful place that surprises most travelers with its friendly people, impressive natural beauty and for many it becomes their favorite country in Central America. The country has flourished in recent years and is an incredibly vibrant and unique country. Oozing with colonial charm, Granada is the oldest city of the 'New World', having been founded in 1524. The city resides on the banks of Lake Nicaragua and its appearance is a mixture of Moorish and Andalusian.

The surrounding countryside includes active volcanoes and lakes. Bargain hard in the markets, hike, cruise and explore the neighboring landscapes. Wander the cobblestone streets surrounded by colorful buildings, or tour the islets of Lake Nicaragua by boat.

Alternatively, take a day trip out to Mombacho or Masaya Volcano National Park to get up close to some steaming giants. There really is so much to do, you won't know where to start!

Wave farewell to the monkeys and beaches of Ometepe Island as you continue your travels south to the lush green cloud forests of Monteverde, Costa Rica. There are so many additional ways to enjoy the gorgeous landscapes of Monteverde and from cloud forest walks to night time nature rambles, this is an exciting and captivating area of Costa Rica. The joining hotel will be revealed once your booking is confirmed. You will meet your tour leader and group at 6:00pm in the hotel lobby.

The tour ends at Rincon de San Jose Hotel at around 5:00pm. Please book your flight departing after 9:00pm.

We recommend you book pre and post accommodation with us, please contact our CSR for further assistance.

Arrival:

The easiest way to get from Guatemala City airport to Antigua is by taxi and will take around 45 minutes and costs about 350.00 GTQ (45.00 USD). Negotiate the price before boarding the taxi. Alternatively, “Antigua Shuttle” buses are available hourly from Guatemala City airport to Antigua. This service is provided by freelance drivers authorized by Antigua Shuttle. The trip takes approx 1 hour and costs around 80.00 GTQ (USD 10.00). Look for the sign reading “Antigua shuttle” as you exit the main hall.

Departure:

Take the shuttle service to the airport. Transfer takes 20-30 mins, cost approx. USD 15.00 (one way per person). You must reserve the shuttle online at least 48 hours before arrival. Taxis take 30 mins to the International Airport (traffic dependent).

Departure Tax:

Please allow USD 15.00 when flying from into Guatemala City airportt. These payments must be made in cash at the airport and are in addition to the USD 30.00 international tax which may be included in your international flight ticket. If departing from Guatemala by land, please allow USD 3.00 for departure tax.

Please allow USD 3.00 each entrance and departure for Honduras.

Please allow USD 15.00 tax when entering Nicaragua by land, and USD 10.00 when entering by air.

Please allow USD 26.00 for international departure tax from Costa Rica.

  • Luggage Allowance & Storage
    One suitcase, soft holdall or rucksack (23 kg maximum) per person, plus a sleeping bag. A small daypack and camera can also be carried in the van.
  • Spending Money
    We recommend you take at least USD 15.00-20.00 per day for meals not included in the trip however, please note everyone has different meal preferences so this is only to be used as a guideline. You should also budget for the optional activities that you would like to do. Guideline prices for the most popular optional activities are listed on page 1 and on the tour pages on our website. We suggest you bring USD 300.00 with you in cash.
    In Guatemala the official currency is the Quetzal (GTQ).
    In El Salvador the official currency is the United States Dollar (USD).
    In Nicaragua the official currency is the Gold Cordoba (NIO).
    In Costa Rica the official currency is the Colon (CRC).
    In Honduras the official currency is the Lempira (HNL).
    With ATMs being widely available in major towns and cities, credit and debit cards are the most convenient way to access money in Latin America. Please alert your bank prior to travel to avoid blockage, check if charges apply, and ensure your card is accepted in the country. It is advisable to carry some cash in small denominations notes, for those times when ATMs may not be available.
  • Vaccinations
    We recommend that you contact your doctor or travel medicine clinic at least two months before travel in order to allow enough time for any immunizations that may be required to be completed.
  • Health Requirements
    If you have any medical condition such as diabetes, epilepsy, asthma, take prescribed medicines, or have a condition that will affect your participation in the trek, you must tell us at the time of booking.
  • Travel Insurance
    It is a condition of joining this tour that you must be insured against medical and personal accident risks (including repatriation costs, air ambulance, and helicopter rescue service). We can offer an insurance policy that is designed specifically to cover the potential risks on this tour - particularly the any optional adventurous activities you plan to take part in, and covers those residing in the EU.   • This tour/activity is overseen by a select local operator in the region. Upon booking your tour or activity and after receiving confirmation, you will be issued an e-ticket detailing the local operator's name and contact information. Reservation Info

    2. Within one to two business days of submitting your reservation you will receive a confirmation email from us. If you need to book an airline ticket, we recommend that you do so after you receive a confirmation of your tour reservation from us.
    3. An E-Ticket will be sent to you via email as soon as details of your reservation are confirmed or your supporting information is received by us. We will provide you with all detailed information about your tour on the E-Ticket. Contact information for local tour provider will be included on E-Ticket for your convenience or re-confirmation purpose if re-confirmation is required.
    4. Simply print your E-Ticket and present it with your valid photo ID on the day of your activity to your tour guide. Please remember E-Ticket is your proof of purchase.
