One of the most famous and largest zoos in the world features more than 3,700 animals of 650-plus species and more than 700,000 plants on 100 acres of land in Balboa Park. San Diego Zoo was opened in 1916 and currently is one of a small number of zoological institutions in the world to have the giant panda. It has activities for visitors to enjoy such as the Balboa Park Mini Trail, Guided Bus Tour, Express Bus, Skyfari aerial tram, different Animal Encounters, many play areas, animal shows, 4-D theaters and specialty tours. The zoo recently premiered its Koalafornia Adventure highlighting adorable Koala bears and other Australian wildlife. More than 33 million people visit the world-renowned zoo every year.
