New York Stock Exchange

The largest stock exchange in the world and its trading floor are located on Wall Street in Lower Manhattan with its building easily recognized by the six large Corinthian columns draped with the American Flag. The New York Stock Exchange began in 1792 when 24 stockbrokers came together under a buttonwood tree along Wall Street to sign an agreement regarding the buying and selling of stock and shares of businesses. A bell is rung - many times by featured guests - to signify the beginning and end of the trading day. The NYSE structure is a U.S. National Historic Landmark.
