Naval Base San Diego

The mainland home to the Pacific Fleet contains 49 United States Navy ships, two Coast Guard vessels and 213 commands on 1,600 land acres and 326 water acres in San Diego. Naval Base San Diego was created in 1922 as U.S. Destroyer Base, San Diego on the site of a former ship building area called Emergency Fleet Corporation. More than 35,000 military and civilian employees work at the naval base often referred to as 32nd Street Naval Station that has housing for 4,500 personnel and their families.
