Mount Soledad

The 822-foot high hill located mainly in the San Diego neighborhood of La Jolla has a giant concrete cross originally constructed in 1913 and later rebuilt and refurbished. Mount Soledad's Christian landmark caused controversy and was redefined in 1952 as part of a Veterans War Memorial that now has six concrete walls with more than 3,000 plaques recognizing war veterans. The mountain is a popular hiking and cycling spot, as well.
