Hilo
The Big Island's largest city is located close to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park as well as many other attractions including Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Factory, Pacific Tsunami Museum, Imiloa Astronomy Center, Rainbow Falls and Panaʻewa Rainforest Zoo. Hilo dates back to 1100 A.D. when Polynesians first lived on the island. The city's name means "to twist" in Hawaiian and was named by King Kamehameha after a knot he used for his canoe.
