Hanalei Valley

Taro fields, lush greenery, waterfalls, mountains and rainbows can be observed in this spectacular valley along Kauai's North Shore. The Hanalei Valley Lookout Point setting is one of the most photographed scenes in Hawaii. Taro has been grown in the valley for hundreds of years and most of Hawaii's taro is grown here. The valley's agricultural history is highlighted at the Hoopulapula Haraguchi Rice Mill, which is on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The Hanalei National Wildlife Refuge stretching more than 900 acres was designated in the Hanalei Valley in 1972 to protect its plant and animal life.
