Coral Castle

Latvia native Edward Leedskalnin carved 1,100 tons of coral from 1923 to 1951 to create this unique Florida sculpture garden. When people asked him why he did it, the late Leedskalnin said he realized "the secret of the pyramids." Coral Castle Museum, which is a Registered National Historic Landmark, has a 9-ton gate, sundial, telescope, furniture and many other ornaments all made out of stone. Some say unrequited love could be Leedskalnin's motivation for the sculptures as his 16-year-old fiancee called off his Latvian wedding just a day before it was supposed to occur.
