Cienfuegos

Located about 160 mi (250 km) from Havana, Cuba and known as the Pearl of the South, Cienfuegos is a city on the southern coast of Cuba and capital of Cienfuegos Province. Near the entrance to the bay is Castillo de Jagua, a fortress built in 1745 to defend the city against Caribbean pirates. The historic center of the city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and features eclectic architecture in a neoclassical style. Cienfuegos’s attractions include the Cathedral of Cienfuegos, Botanical Garden of Cienfuegos and Arch of Triumph, as well as some interesting cemeteries.
