Champ de Mars

The magnificent public green space that opened in 1780 extends from Paris' famed Eiffel Tower to Ecole Militaire and is a popular place for Parisians and tourists to sit, read, picnic, listen to music and play sports. Champ de Mars, which is named after the Roman god of war Mars as the space was an 18th Century military training ground, has a marionette theater, playgrounds, donkey rides, flower gardens and trees. Mur pour la Paix, or Wall of Peace was constructed in 2000 in front of Ecole Militaire and has the word "peace" written in 32 languages.
