Central Park

The most visited park in the world is an 840-acre nature retreat from New York City's Concrete Jungle and attracts nearly 38 million people per year. Central Park opened in 1857 and its design by architects Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux was finished in 1873. The U.S. National Historic Landmark's many attractions include Central Park Zoo, Central Park Carousel, Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre, Belvedere Castle, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir, Bethesda Fountain, Cleopatra's Needle, Strawberry Fields memorial and 29 different sculptures. The park has more than 25,000 trees and is open year-round with a popular ice skating rink in the winter.
