Boston Common

Established in 1634, this is the United States' oldest city park and is the beginning of Boston's historic Freedom Trail. Boston Common has been the site of many events throughout its years such as public hangings, a Revolutionary War British military camp, Vietnam War protests and speeches by Martin Luther King Jr., Pope John Paul II and feminist leader Gloria Steinem. The near 50-acre scenic park is used for concerts, special events, sports, ice skating, gatherings and protests. The Registered National Historic Landmark has a cemetery on its grounds and several monuments, as well.
