Two impressive bronze lion statues greet the more than 1.5 million visitors annually to this Chicago cultural institution started in 1879 and now has about 300,000 art pieces on permanent display. Art Institute of Chicago's current Beaux-Arts style structure was designed by Shepley, Rutan and Cooledge for the 1893 World's Fair. It is the second largest museum in the United States having eight buildings and encompassing one million square feet.
