Adler Planetarium

This Chicago planetarium opened in 1930 is not only the first to be built in America, it's also the first of it's kind to be built in the entire Western Hemisphere. The Adler also prides itself in having one of the world's finest collections of antique astronomical instruments and artifacts that date back to the 12th century. The U.S. National Historic Landmark earned its designer Ernest A. Grunsfeld Jr. a gold medal in 1931 from the American Institute of Architects Chicago Chapter.
