Summary of The Day: Grab the whole family for a fun day of exploration into Neoclassical Athens, the period where Athens arose from the rule of the Ottoman Empire to the capital of Greece! Meet your local guide at the Panepistimio metro station and discover the Neoclassical Trilogy of Athens: the University of Athens, the National Library, and the Academy. From these three historic buildings you'll lay the foundations of your knowledge of Neoclassical Athens.
Then you'll set off to put your education to the test as you tour Athen's most historic and architecturally rich areas. Stepping into the heart of the city, the Syntagma Square, and discover the Greek Parliament Building, the Monument of the Unkown Soldier, and see the changing of the guards.
Next up, you'll head to the gorgeous National Gardens, where the historic Kings of Athens once wandered through. Get lost in this fantastic green space, hidden away from the hustle and bustle of the city, which has become home to colorful parrots, turtles, geese, and more animal denizens. Keep your guide close though to here fascinating tales.
From here we'll step back into the city to see the Panathenaic Stadium home to the first Modern Olympic games of 1896. After hearing stories about the earliest Olympic game, your guide will lead you to two magnificent monuments: the Temple of Olympian Zeus and Arch of Hadrian.
Lastly, we'll end the tour in Plaka, the city's most historic neighborhood.
