Summary of The Day: Combine 2 half-day tours and save money!!!
During this tour, you'll visit the Royal Monastery of El Escorial and the Valley of the Fallen during the morning and then see Madrid during the afternoon!
We will start our visit at El Escorial, a symbol of the Spanish power in the 16th century that commemorates the battle of St. Quentin. It is also a mausoleum for Charles V. Due to the symmetry and balance of its construction in the humanist Renaissance style, it had been considered the Eighth Wonder of the World. The visit includes the Habsburg Palace, the Kings and Princes Mausoleum, the Chapter House and the Basilica.
Located five miles away from El Escorial, the Valley of the Fallen monument was built between 1940 and 1959 to honor the fallen during the Spanish Civil War. The basilica is carved into the mountain at nearly 4,430 feet of altitude, where an impressive 492-foot high cross towers over the magnificent mountain range.
We'll then tour Madrid, which features a variety of architectural styles that the city inherited throughout history. You will be able to find the medieval origins of the city like the Arabic fortress at the Barrio de la Moreria, characterized by the antiquity of its buildings and the taste of its typical restaurants.
We will also cover the Hapsburg Madrid of Felipe II, with its Renaissance and Baroque buildings walking and taking pictures on Calle Mayor, Plaza Mayor and Plaza de la Villa.
Then, we will see the Bourbon Madrid and the urban layout by Carlos III at such places as the Royal Palace, Cibeles Fountain, Neptune Fountain and the Puerta de Alcala. We will also visit the works from the kingdom of Joseph Bonaparte of the 19th century - like the Prado Museum.
We will discover contemporary Madrid on areas such as Gran Via, Paseo de la Castellana, Barrio Salamanca, Plaza de Castilla and Parque del Oeste, as well as the commercial and financial areas of Modern Madrid, like the emblematic Ventas Bullring or Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. During this tour, we will stop at the famous Hard Rock Cafe to enjoy a free drink.
