From the centuries-old Lone Cypress to the wave-scrubbed Pacific coast, 17-Mile Drive is a study in superlatives, a spectacular set of twists on every must-drive list. The 17-Mile Drive is a scenic road through Pacific Grove and Pebble Beach, California, United States, much of which hugs the Pacific coastline and passes famous golf courses and mansions. It also serves as the main road through the gated community of Pebble Beach. At the north end, the road originates in Pacific Grove at the intersection of Del Monte Blvd. The famous portion of 17-Mile Drive then begins a few miles south of this point. The road runs adjacent to beaches and up into the coastal hills, providing scenic viewpoints.
Travel along 17-Mile Drive takes as long as the traveler likes. There are numerous turnouts along the road to stop, take pictures, or get out and stroll along the ocean or among the trees. Each visitor receives a small map that points out some of the more scenic spots. Along the way, you’ll encounter the emerald fairways of such famous golf courses as The Links at Spanish Bay, Spyglass Hill and the world-renowned Pebble Beach Golf Links. For a gourmet picnic lunch along 17-Mile Drive, visit Pebble Beach Market adjacent to The Lodge at Pebble Beach. Just outside the lower Pacific Grove gate to the gated community of Pebble Beach is Pacific Grove's Sunset Drive (which becomes Ocean View Boulevard), which follows Pacific Grove's scenic coastline and is called by some the "poor man's 17-Mile Drive."
Discover Nature’s treasures as you explore the serene majesty of Del Monte Forest. Here you’ll quickly experience the magic of a legendary scenic tour that’s home to The Lone Cypress, Seal and Bird Rocks, Fanshell Beach, Point Joe, and the colliding currents of The Restless Sea. The natural beauty of the Del Monte Forest is easily explored on horseback or on foot. This land of wooded hills, windswept beaches, and rocky shores is magnificent no matter what the season. There are more than 25 miles of riding and hiking trails, many of which originate from the Pebble Beach Equestrian Center. You’ll see black cormorants, brown pelicans, California sea otters, harbor seals, and idle sea lions all in their natural habitat. Colorful native wildflowers dot the scene, adorning the cool, soothing hues of the seashore and carefully preserved dunescape.
The public courses include Poppy Hills, home of the Northern California Golf Association, the Links at Spanish Bay which is accessible when you stay at the Inn, Spyglass Hill which was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., Peter Hay Par-3 Course and famous Pebble Beach Golf Links with the Lodge, shops and dining.
