Summary of The Day: In Barcelona, history and traditions go hand in hand with emerging fashion and new trends in cuisine, culture and art. Barcelona offers the possibility of enjoying the sea as well as the mountains. See the most emblematic sights the city has to offer!
We'll start with a sightseeing tour that will take you up the elegant Passeig de Gracia, where you will see the most famous Gaudi houses: Casa Batllo and Casa Mila (La Pedrera), as well as other iconic buildings of the Modernist era.
Then we'll take you to the sea for a better appreciation of the intense changes the city underwent with the organization of the Olympic Games in 1992. We'll pass the Olympic Village and Olympic Port; the beach and fisherman's quarter; Port Vell; and Plaza de Colon with its famous Columbus monument, indicating which way he sailed to discover the Americas. This is also the starting point of the famous Ramblas. Then we'll make our way up to Mount Juic, where you can enjoy a cable car ride with precious views of the city. The bus will pick you up at the last station and take you past sports facilities built for the 1992 Olympics: the Lluis Companys stadium, the Palau Sant Jordi, and the Olympic swimming pool Picornell, ultimately arriving at Spanish Village, where you will be given a demonstration of fine handicrafts.
During the drive back to the city center, you will be able to admire the Venetian Towers, the Mount Juic fountains, the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (MNAC) and the El Born Centre Cultural (CC), Las Arenas rebuilt over the ancient Plaza de Toros.
Plaza de Catalunya is the starting point of the guided walking tour of the old city center. Our guide will take you to the Gothic Cathedral, through the narrow streets of the Gothic Quarter and to Plaza Sant Jaume, where the City Hall is located and the headquarters of the Catalonian government. Our tour finishes at the Plaza de Catalunya, in front of the Hard Rock Cafe, in the city center at a 10-minute walking distance from our office.
We'll regroup at at 3:15pm at the local operator's office (Balmes 5) for the second part of the tour.
A comfortable bus will take you to the mountain of Montserrat at 4,051 feet (1,236 meters) above sea level.
This trip to Montserrat will give you the opportunity to enjoy the wonderful and breathtaking views of Montserrat, one of nature's special wonders.
You will go up on the Cog-Wheel Train, which will take you directly to the monastery - a 15-minute trip with a privileged and spectacular view of the mountain. The train has panoramic windows which make the actual journey an interesting attraction. The train is air-conditioned and wheelchair-friendly.
We'll visit the Royal Basilica of Montserrat, which holds the famous 12th century Romanesque carving of Virgen Moreneta (the Black Virgin). The Benedict sanctuary of Montserrat was founded in 1025 and provides a mystical backdrop for the Virgin of Montserrat, the patron saint of Catalonia enshrined in the Royal Basilica.
At the end of the tour service we will return to Barcelona and drop you off at Carrer de Balmes, 5.
